Psychologische aspecten van seksuele klachten

Het onderzoek naar de psychologische aspecten van seksuele klachten omvat:

  • Onderzoek naar seksuele motivatie en seksuele opwinding. In het zogenaamde ‘seksuologische laboratorium’ worden klassieke conditionering en het effect van psychologische en neurobiologische factoren op de seksuele respons onderzocht. Hierbij wordt gebruik gemaakt van psychofysiologische meetmethoden waaronder  vaginale fotoplethysmografie, erectiele respons meting, en electromyografie (EMG) van de bekkenbodem. In samenwerking met het LIBC (Leiden Institute of Brain and Cognition) wordt ook fMRI (Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) toegepast. 
  • Onderzoek naar seksuele pijnstoornissen. In onderzoek naar het effect van een nieuw ontwikkelde behandeling voor vaginisme (begeleide exposure) wordt de rol van angstige cognities en vermijding in vaginisme onderzocht. Daarnaast wordt in psychofysiologisch onderzoek de rol van angst, verminderde seksuele opwinding, en bekkenbodemspierspanning bij vrouwen met dyspareunie onderzocht.
