Once you have been accepted by one of our thesis advisors, you will embark on a 4 year PhD program that consists of research-on-the-job in a renowned research environment with excellent infrastructure and dedicated supervision.
Courses, lectures and summer schools
In our academic community, we strongly believe in educating our PhD students and providing them with knowledge and skills for their future career. We offer you a variety of in-depth scientific and transferable skill courses to prepare you for the next step in your career. We also organize lectures and summer schools with other European (LERU) universities.
Supervision, portfolio and guidance
At the start of your PhD program you will be registered in the research management system of the Graduate School and officially accepted as PhD student by the Dean. Together with your supervisors you will compose a training and guidance plan and start building your portfolio. Progress meetings with your thesis advisor are also part of the process. Throughout your PhD, you will attend a number of (mandatory) courses and lectures. At the end of your PhD track you will finalize the academic formalities and defend your thesis before a committee of experts.
Career advice and support
Throughout your PhD track you will be encouraged to think critically and creatively. You will work towards becoming a researcher or a medical doctor or both. Moreover, together we will focus on your career prospects and employability in academia, industry, education or research management. The LUMC career guidance center can assist with practical workshops and personal advice.
