Aim and Focus

In the coming years, human ageing will be one of the biggest challenges faced by industrialized countries. The average life expectancy is continuously increasing and we may be faced with spending more years in poor health. As ageing is a relatively modern phenomenon, we lack the basic biologic knowledge of the underlying processes. An increased understanding of the ageing process and applying new interventions will help protect and preserve health. The aim of our research is to identify the biological mechanisms that determine the presence and absence of disease in old age. In achieving this we use data from various study populations that we have collected over the past years.
