Electron Microscopy

You have reached web-page of the Section Electron Microscopy section headed by  Bram Koster.

The section is part of the  Department of Molecular Cell Biology at the  Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands. Our section complements our sister  Light Microscopy Section in the department.

The mission of the electron microscopy section is to develop and apply electron microscopy  methods and techniques to gain new information on biological systems and their cellular regulation. We develop and apply novel methods that allow zooming into the cellular architecture and visualize macromolecular structures with nm-scale resolution. Most of our method developments involve aspects of chemistry, physics, informatics, mechanics and biology. For many projects we adapt, design and build our own tools if they are not available or do not (yet) exist.

More information can be found at  the Koster lab website with illustrative datasets and  contact details. Our research projects focus on the research of the LUMC:  Biomedical imaging,  Infectious diseases and immunology, and  Vascular medicine

We provide a  full range of state-of-the-art equipment for specimen preparation, electron microscopy, immuno-labeling, electron tomography, single particle electron microscopy, correlative light-electron microscopy, image processing and visualization. For details please explore the  website.

The  Netherlands Center of Electron Nanoscopy (NeCEN) is located in close vicinity to our laboratory. Through this facility we have seamless access to high performance cryo TEMs.

We welcome research collaborations on a wide variety of topics. For more information on how to collaborate with us or using our facility, please visit the  Collaboration page and or  Contact page.

Our secretarial office can be reached by email and by phone: +31-71-5269200.
