Orthopaedics and Pulmonology

This section is primary engaged in image processing for applications in Orthopaedics and Pulmonology in close colaboration with the corresponding clinical departments at the LUMC, but also in other medical specialties, like Rheumatology.
The pulmonary applications are focused on the quantification of lung diseases, such as pulmonary emphysema and interstitial lung disease, using CT densitometry and automatic detection and assessment of bronchial walls.
The orthopaedic applications involve projects, in which the micro motion of endoprostheses are measured with respect to the surrounding bone, and projects, in which fatty degeneration is assessed with CT, using muscle densitometry.
Together with rheumatology, our research is focused on quantifying cartelage in hand osteoarthritis.
